Dem Bones, Dem Bones!

Dem Bones, Dem Bones!

The toe bone’s connected to the foot bone,

The foot bone’s connected to the ankle bone,

The ankle bone’s connected to the leg bone,

Now shake dem skeleton bones!

Ever hear this famous children’s song? The song continues up the kinetic chain to the hip, back, and spine, then to the shoulders, arms, and fingers.

If you have ever experienced pain in any area of your body, there is no “shaking dem skeleton bones”. The body often hurts too much. Three common areas, or postural distortion patterns, can be assessed:

  • Pronation distortion syndrome is often characterized by foot pronation and muscle imbalances found around the knees, ankles, and feet .
  • Lower crossed syndrome is characterized by an anterior tilt of the pelvis and lower body muscle imbalances which may include the glutes, hamstrings, and quads.
  • Upper crossed syndrome is characterized by a forward head and rounded shoulders which often include muscle imbalances in the back, shoulders, and chest.

If you would like to learn more about the upper back and shoulders or the low back and hips, I am teaching two community education classes through the Holdingford Public School. Please register via the link: https://holdingford.revtrak.net/tek9.asp?pg=regwerks

Look under Health and Wellness titled “Help!…I Have a Pain in my Neck” and “Ouch!…My Low Back Hurts”

We will be learning about the muscle structure of each area and learn some key yoga poses that might help you.
